HomeHomeLearn to Swim School

We believe that a good environment and an enjoyable swimming experience is key to learning. We limit the numbers in each lesson. All our swimming teachers are Swim England level 2 qualified.
OUR SWIM SCHOOL

The Borough of  Swimming Club provides high-quality swimming lessons for children from 4 years upwards. We strive to not only teach your children to swim – but how to swim well!

Previous graduates of the Learn To Swim Program have gone on to compete at County, Regional and National Levels.

The Club’s Learn to Swim programme produces a high standard of swimmers. Our Learn to Swim lessons have some of the lowest teacher-pupil ratios in the area and we aim to have 6 swimmers per lesson. With the deep end lessons, we aim to have 8 swimmers per lesson as we find this encourages good development and greater concentration.

The Borough of Harrow Swimming Club adheres to Swim England Equity & Diversity Policy and will treat everyone equally regardless of their age, level of ability or disability, gender, race, religion or belief.

Our Swim School guarantees a fun and engaging experience where children of all ages with varying abilities learn to swim and improve their skills in a safe and entertaining environment. We take children from the age of 4 – and you’ll be astonished by what they can achieve! They’ll have great fun while all the time building their confidence and independence in the water.

Harrow Swimming Club is also the perfect place for your little one to start out on their competitive swimming journey.

Whether it’s just for safety or for fun, or whether its the first stop on their way to the Olympics, Harrow Swimming offer classes to teach your child how to swim.

Many of our current Foundation and Development Squads started off right here.

Our Learn to Swim programme contain the following levels, with Stage 1 being the earliest and Stage 7 being the final stage before progressing onto Academy and Foundation Squads:

Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3, Stage 4, Stage 5, Stage 6 and Stage 7

OUR SWIM STAGES

Harrow Swimming Club provides children and young people the opportunity to learn and develop swimming skills.
Please note that taking a course one time, does not mean it was successfully completed. Most students will repeat courses to master necessary required skills for the next level. There is no set amount of time that is allotted to master specific skills, please be patient and remember that confidence and competency take time and repetition.

The Lessons
We have a maximum of 7 swimmers to 1 teacher in our beginner and improver classes. Our deep-end and lengths classes have a maximum of 10 swimmers to 1 teacher.
The teachers who work in the water will teach by supporting the body and aiding correct stroke technique through demonstration and manipulation.

Assessments

Assessing is programmed into each term over 2 weekends on specified dates for all swimmers towards the end of each term.  However, if a child has progressed to pass the criteria during the term we can move swimmers.  Teachers will recommend to our Learn to Swim Programme Manager if they feel a swimmer is ready to progress to the next level.

Please note, we will not be able to guarantee the same time or day as the current class if children move during the term. Children will be allocated a place in the next class dependant on availabilities.

Once swimmers have completed stage 7 they are offered the opportunity to enrol in our 60 min Academy squad, which can then lead onto our Squad programme. Those with the potential and enthusiasm are encouraged to consider entering our competitive squads which can involve training several times a week and entering galas.
